I just finished posting about gaining joy through understanding and living according to your purpose as a Christian (to advance the gospel). Now I want to challenge you to do something about it this week.
Each time you enter a new situation, pray that God would use you to advance the gospel and then keep your eyes peeled for opportunities.
The opportunities might be chances to:
- clarify some aspect of the gospel (man's sinfulness, God's holiness, Jesus perfection, God's provision for our deepest problem through Jesus, etc.) in conversation;.
- demonstrate some characteristic of God (unconditional love, mercy, generosity, justice, etc.) through your actions and attitude;
- get to know someone so you can pray for them;
- display faith in God's care, etc.
So, when you:
- approach the breakfast table with your family,
- strap the kids into their car seats,
- balance the family budget,
- arrive in the parking lot at work,
- enter the meeting room,
- sit down in the barber's chair,
- walk through the mall doors,
- get in the checkout line,
- dial the phone number,
- etc.,
pray for God to use you to advance the gospel and look of opportunities.
This will take discipline; but if you never take practical steps toward applying the truth of God's word, you'll never experience joy in God through Jesus.
